(Reposting from Facebook) BREAKING NEWS! We knew this day would come, kids, but it still tugs at the old heartstrings. Muppeteer legend Caroll Spinney is retiring tomorrow :-( As he's been doing since 2015, Caroll will be recording his voices at the studio tomorrow for use in Sesame Street's upcoming 50th season and then officially handing Big Bird over to Matt Vogel, his apprentice since 1996 (Eric Jacobson has been handling Oscar since 2015). I hope they have enough tissues 'cause I'm pretty sure the tears will be flowing. Isn't Caroll's painting of Big Bird flying over the countryside just perfect for today? Well, I thought so. It's called "In My Dreams I Can Fly," and it made me cry happy tears. He always wanted to fly *sniff!* Farewell and all the best, Mr. Spinney! Seeing you and Oscar (and your wife, Debra) at the premiere of "I Am Big Bird" was a major highlight of this Muppet fan's already pretty colourful life and I doubt I will ever top it.
